BOUND SCISSORS
An ongoing project featuring a collection of impotent scissors.
The scissor is a universal object. It is a necessary tool of many trades--from the surgeon to the seamstress. They are used to cut, trim, divide and sever. As children we are warned not to run with scissors. We are taught to handle them with care and pass them properly--handles out, sharp points towards our own body.
For two months I bound a pair of scissors every day. As the scissors are wrapped and stitched they are rendered useless. We now see a simple object, a shadow of the former tool. In its mummified form the scissor has become a fetish that resembles the phallus. It has been made impotent and exists only as a scarred symbol of life.
